Hands On Excellence

We live and breathe construction, it is what we do and we love what we do. From material acquisition all the way to touch-up paint; excellent is the only standard we will accept.

We have been in the construction industry for over 30 years. And have seen so many scenarios (we could say we have seen it all, but there are always surprises). Our experience will simplify the process for you.

As a general construction company, we can plan, design, permit, and build your upcoming addition, remodel, renovation, or new construction project.

Also, if your home is damaged due to fire or flooding we can repair and restore it; bringing it back to its previous condition or better. We work directly with your insurance company.

Within the construction field, remodels and renovations are considered the most challenging, As these jobs require skills in all the trades. And with these types of projects, you are working with existing construction that is imperfect. Because it has shifted with the tectonic plates and the materials have aged.

With Remodels & Renovations, you need someone who can handle the many aspects of your project. Someone who can work with the local building department and smoothly bring all the elements together with care and focus.

Where We Build

We work in the Portland Oregon metro area. We also do projects in the surrounding areas on a per job determination.

Our Very Practical Story

So what is our story? We have been in this business for over 30 years. Our history is not very fancy. Rather, it is practical and down-to-earth. I suppose you could say our story is your common everyday construction story. It is based on working in the field every day. And every day gaining greater skill and ability. Thus, over the years we have seen and done almost anything. An evolution you could say. This is what you want from a general construction company.

Michael is our company’s charismatic owner and the one who ultimately oversees all our projects. Michael, as a Kindergartener, was dedicated to wearing work boots (visualize baby Danner boots). And for his 6th birthday, he received a most prized possession, a tool belt. He knew what he wanted to do, as you can guess… he wanted to BUILD.

He officially started working in construction in the early 1980s. He worked for his neighbor who was an amazing general contractor. Michael was just in his teens. He kept at it. Over time he learned all phases of construction.

He even apprenticed with for a plumber in Los Angeles in his early 20’s. And he also spend some time working with an electrician. We are not licensed plumbers or electricians. We work with subcontractors who are.

He has been immersed in construction. He lives and breathes it. His training has been hands-on and in the field. Since the 1990’s he has built 1000s of new homes and renovations/ remodels throughout Portland and the Pacific Northwest. Including custom cedar homes.

Michael is also a consultant for several other small construction businesses in Oregon and works as a homeowner representative to help them achieve their goals. He helps people by sharing his experience and providing solutions as they build their companies and projects. This is the kind of problem-solving that only a versatile and experienced builder can provide.

Some Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t have plans drawn yet. Can I still get a bid?

Since we do all phases of construction you do not need to have plans drawn up in order for us to provide you with an estimate for your project.

All you need to do is let us know your vision and we can convert that vision into a clear actionable plan.

Will I need a permit?

Each job is different. Depending on the scope of work, your job may need a permit. No worries. That is where we come in. We work with the city/ county to make sure we get all needed documents and permits handled.

Permits are great. A common problem in construction is people will try to do “bootleg” work (not getting a permit when required). When this happens you actually lose money. Since if you do not have a permit it can not be included as added value in your home’s price.

Permits protect homes and a good contractor will gladly work closely with the city/ county to ensure everything is done well. Mandatory inspections complement your Contractor’s experience and act as a system of checks and balances, resulting in a safer project.

Does Pricing Change After the Job Starts?

First of all, we pride ourselves on providing accurate pricing at the beginning of the job. Our business model does not depend on add-ons and surprise price increases. We know how challenging it can be to finance a construction job.

But there may be times when the price does change. And if that happens on your job we will talk it over with you. Often we see potential issues during the bid. And will let you know at that time what may come up.

So why would the price increase? Bottom line, there are two ways pricing may change.

  1. You decide to do something different.
  2. We discover something, like dry rot at demo that changes things. Typically we will be able to let you know prior to the job the possible issues that we may encounter.

Either way, we will go over any changes carefully with you. And help find the best approach, financially and structurally.

When there are any changes we will draft a change order with you. The change/ additional work order will include a new completion schedule and pricing.

It is important to us to take the time to talk about key elements, especially any changes, that are vital to your job success. We want things to go amazing for you with this construction project.
